Context
FlashCut CNC · Manufacturing. Manufacturer of CNC controls whose software has to cover the path from CAD model to finished part.
Problem
The existing software did not cover the CAD/CAM process end to end: toolpaths from CAD data, a real-time 3D view and part nesting had to be built from scratch.
What we built
CAD/CAM software built completely new: toolpath generation directly from CAD geometry (Open CASCADE), real-time 3D rendering with OpenGL and nesting algorithms for material utilisation — as a desktop application in C++/Qt.
Key engineering decision
A complete rebuild on a geometry kernel instead of extending the legacy software. Toolpaths are generated directly from the CAD geometry; nesting and the 3D view share the same model — the basis for serving manufacturing shops as customers, not only machine makers.
Result
- The client expanded its market from machine makers to manufacturing shops
- Toolpaths from CAD, real-time 3D and nesting in one application
