Context

Brainlab AG · Medical technology. Software for neurovascular treatment planning and navigation in spine and trauma surgery — with integration into surgical robots.

Problem

Planning neurovascular interventions required precise alignment of 2D imaging with 3D patient data — until then with a localiser frame. For spine and trauma navigation the software additionally had to work together with surgical robots.

What we built

A neurovascular treatment-planning suite with 2D-3D co-registration without a localiser frame, plus Spine & Trauma Navigation integrated with surgical robots. A desktop application with image-processing and 3D algorithms (point clouds, registration, real-time rendering) and service integration via gRPC.

Key engineering decision

2D-3D co-registration without a localiser frame. The registration is computed from the image data itself instead of from a frame attached to the patient — less effort in the operating room and the basis for minimally invasive workflows.
