Scalable software platform for modern surveying systems

Context

Leading manufacturer of surveying equipment (part of an international measurement-technology group), construction and geodesy. A product family of field devices, cloud services and office software whose measurement and project data has to stay consistent across all three layers — in the field without a permanent connection, in the office with high precision requirements.

Problem

Dozens of products could not exchange data. Teams bridged the gap with USB sticks and manual exports — inconsistencies at every handover. Every new product brought its own data path and slowed down its launch.

What we built

A software platform for the seamless synchronisation of measurement and project data between devices, the cloud and office workstations — on desktop, embedded and cloud, for Windows, Linux and Android. At its core: a plugin-based core framework and an internal SDK for data persistence that keeps data flows consistent across the entire product range. Alongside it, image-processing and 3D components (SLAM, LiDAR, point clouds) and a separate concept team for feasibility studies.

Key engineering decision

One shared persistence SDK and a plugin core instead of product-specific data paths. Each product brings its domain logic as a plugin; data model, storage and synchronisation remain a single layer. Data exchange between field, cloud and office is solved once — and every further product builds on it instead of re-implementing it.

Result

  • Scalable foundation for expanding the product portfolio; professional users worldwide work with reliably connected systems
